'Laotian Diva' gives charity performance for Japanese earthquake victims
English Description

VIENTIANE--A Laotian pop star who is studying for a doctorate at Keio University is doing her bit for earthquake relief.

Alexandra, known as the "Laotian Diva," took part in a charity concert that was broadcast live across Laos on April 6, raising about $12,000 (980,000 yen) for victims of the March 11 disaster.

"The amount of money that a small country like Laos can donate is limited," she said, "but everyone wants to help."

The 24-year-old singer, who made her singing debut aged 14, has been studying the media at Keio University Graduate School since 2008.

She returned to Laos in late February to pursue her singing career and to continue her research.

She said she had friends in Japan who were doing volunteer work in the disaster zone.
