Temperature levels in the No. 2 reactor of the disabled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant remain high despite efforts by Tokyo Electric Power Co. to stabilize the situation.TEPCO said temperature levels are currently hovering around 70 degrees, or 20 degrees higher than several days ago.On Feb. 7, the plant operator said the temperature at the bottom of the No. 2 reactor’s pressure vessel was 68.5 degrees at 5 p.m. after the flow of cooling water was increased to 13.5 tons per hour, up 3 tons, early in the day.The temperature has since ranged between 68 degrees and 72 degrees.Officials said the temperature has been “slightly declining.” This was apparently due to the increased water supply to cool the reactor.TEPCO is closely monitoring changes because of differences in readings depending on the thermometer. The reading of a thermometer at the bottom of the pressure vessel rose sharply from about 50 degrees on Feb. 1 to about 70 degrees on Feb. 5, when the flows of two cooling water supply systems were changed.
