K-pop and Korean drama stars are auctioning off handbags and a broken guitar to raise money for areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
About 80 items donated by South Korean show business personalities are currently on display at the Korean Cultural Center’s Gallery MI in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward until March 25. Most of the exhibits are simultaneously being auctioned off at the Yahoo Auction Internet site.
The center, which publicizes South Korean culture in Japan, said a total of 27 individuals and groups participated.
Girls’ Generation, a nine-member female group, donated autographed handbags while the five-member K-pop band BigBang put an autographed guitar under the hammer. They smashed the guitar while performing on stage.
All the proceeds of the auction will be donated to Great East Japan Earthquake recovery efforts by South Korea’s ambassador to Japan, Shin Kak-soo, when he visits the disaster zone.
