International flavor for British orchestra's charity concert in stricken town
English Description

OTSUCHI, Iwate Prefecture--As local dancers performed a tiger dance, a crop of top classical musicians from Britain put on a charity concert in this disaster-stricken town to encourage children affected by last year's disaster.

The London Metropolitan Orchestra was joined by Japanese "taiko" drummer Joji Hirota and South Korean tenor Whee Jine for the indoor event June 9.

During the proceedings, local performers put on a folkloric tiger dance.

The prestigious orchestra was led by Andy Brown, the LMO's musical director.

The concert followed a similar event held in London in March for victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami.

Flautist Masato Okubo, who lost his home in the March 11, 2011, disaster, performed at the concert in London.
