The No. 3 reactor of the Oi nuclear power plant in Oi, Fukui Prefecture, will be restarted on July 1, making it the first to be brought back online since the nuclear disaster last year.
Plant operator Kansai Electric Power Co. announced the decision on June 25.
KEPCO said a cleanup of the secondary piping system is under way at the No. 3 reactor.
The utility plans to check the reactor's primary cooling system for water leaks and test the functions of its radiation monitoring devices on June 26.
If the work goes off without a hitch, the No. 3 reactor will start generating power on July 4 and reach full capacity as early as July 8, KEPCO said.
