Tokyo Electric Power Co. on July 9 released more photos of the damage at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant caused by the tsunami that was triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake. All 33 photos released were taken at the plant on March 11, 2011, the day the magnitude-9.0 quake struck off the coast of the Tohoku region. One photo shows a curved line that may mark how far the tsunami reached within the plant site. Some of the photos were included in the final report released on July 5 by the Diet's Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission. In explaining why the photos were not released earlier, a TEPCO official said previously released photos were considered more helpful in illustrating the extent of the tsunami damage.
