English Description

In one of Japan’s largest photo exhibitions, opening in Tokyo on July 20, the images were all shot by the public, demonstrating that photography skills are not the sole domain of professionals. The seventh “Photo Is” exhibition, organized by Fujifilm Corp., attracted a record 19,126 photos from across the country. Some 4,500 are on display at the venue in the Tokyo Midtown complex in the Roppongi district. Many of them show ordinary people’s daily lives--a family spending leisure time together, for example. The exhibition includes a special corner featuring photos taken by junior high school students in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, hit hard by last year’s Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami. The students took pictures of their disaster-stricken hometown. The Tokyo exhibition runs through July 25. The Photo Is display will be shown at 29 locations in Osaka, Sendai and other areas across the country.
