WATARI, Miyagi Prefecture--Seafood caught off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture went on sale at a supermarket here, the first time Fukushima seafood has been offered for sale outside of the prefecture since last year's accident at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant."Mizudako" octopus and "shiraitomakibai" sea snails went on sale at the Super Shishido outlet in Watari from July 21."I want to help out the rebuilding effort," said a local woman who bought octopus. "I am not worried because tests are being conducted."The seafood was caught off the coast of Soma, Fukushima Prefecture. After last year's Fukushima nuclear accident, fishing cooperatives in Fukushima Prefecture had refrained from going out to sea. However, the Soma-Futaba fishing cooperative began a trial fishing operation in June for three types of seafood. The octopus and sea snails caught until now had gone on sale in Fukushima Prefecture after tests found no radioactive materials had contaminated the seafood. Some of the other catch from Soma will be sold at an auction at the Sendai central wholesale fish market on July 23."With this as a steppingstone, we want to gradually move forward," said an official with the Soma-Futaba fishing cooperative.
