English Description

Sept. 11 marks 18 months since the Great East Japan Earthquake, and during that time people have been working for recovery in many areas of the disaster-hit Tohoku region.

In the hardest-stricken prefectures of Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate, about 114,000 people are still forced to live in 52,000 temporary housing units.

Even so, signs of recovery are emerging in farmlands, along shopping streets and at fishing ports.

The photos in this collection cover the people who are rebuilding their lives in those areas.
