English Description

A huge wind turbine built in the Pacific off the coast of Chiba Prefecture was shown to media representatives Oct. 22.

The 126-meter tall structure is located 3 kilometers from Choshi and was developed by Tokyo Electric Power Co. and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

It is scheduled to begin generating power in January.

The apparatus is fixed to the ocean floor. The blades have a diameter of 92 meters.

It will have a generating capacity of about 2,400 kilowatts, enough to provide electricity for 1,200 households, NEDO officials say.
