BEIJING--Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has responded to a thank-you letter from a Fukushima Prefecture sixth-grader who met him on his recent visit to Japan, inviting her to visit China.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Japanese schoolgirl Kayo Fukushima sent a letter to Wen after he visited Fukushima Prefecture in May.
Kayo, her younger sister and her parents shook hands with Wen at JR Fukushima Station, according to the Xinhua report.
In the letter she wrote, Kayo thanks Wen and also relates that she likes kanji and pandas. She also wrote that she wanted to study the Chinese language in order to study at Peking University in the future.
The Chinese media reports also said that photos as well as a drawing of Wen by Kayo's younger sister were included with the letter.
In a handwritten reply, Wen wrote, "I received your letter, the drawing and the photos. I was very happy to receive them. I have invited children from the disaster-stricken areas to spend time during school vacations in China. Since you appear to love China very much, you should also come to China. I pray that you and your family remain in good health and happy."
Major Chinese newspapers ran stories in their June 19 editions about the exchange of letters between Wen and Kayo.
The People's Daily, the organ of the Chinese Communist Party, carried a report on its front page, indicating the Chinese media was taking a stance of improving ties between China and Japan.
