ONAGAWA, Miyagi Prefecture--Two-storied and three-storied temporary apartment houses are being built with freight containers on a baseball field in this tsunami-devastated town, where the hilly coast means there is a dearth of level ground.
The two-storied structures will accommodate 45 households, and the 115 occupants will begin moving in on Oct. 10. The three-storied structures, which will accommodate 144 households, are still under construction, and are expected to have their first occupants in late October.
The Onagawa town government ordered the two- and three-storied homes, whereas the prefectural government only ordered one-story structures.
As the weather gets colder, 228 people are still living in school buildings, gymnasiums and other evacuation shelters in this town.
