HONG KONG -- China plans to review its nuclear power plant projects that were temporarily suspended after the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant accident in March.
Li Yongjiang, vice president of the China Nuclear Energy Association, told a conference Oct. 21 the work would get under way by the end of the year.
"China's plan to develop nuclear energy efficiently will remain intact," Li said.
Beijing ordered nationwide safety inspections of nuclear power plants in operation and under construction immediately after the Fukushima accident.
The association said the inspections were completed in early August.
"We are highly confident about safety (of the country's nuclear plants)," said a senior official who was involved in compiling the post-Fukushima safety inspection report.
China has 14 nuclear reactors in operation and 27 under construction. Beijing plans to build 33 more reactors.
