English Description

Higashi Nippon Broadcasting Co., which is based in Miyagi Prefecture, has produced a documentary on the March 11 earthquake and killer tsunami.

Titled “3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake: Recordings of Violent Shock and Huge Tsunami,” the 80-minute DVD contains scenes of the disaster videotaped by the company's journalists in many areas of Miyagi Prefecture.

The footage covers the first 50 days since tsunami spawned by the magnitude-9.0 quake devastated northeastern Japan.

The DVD is in three parts: “Recordings of the Violent Shock and Huge Tsunami,” “Recordings of the First 50 Days Since the Quake--Move Toward Recovery” and “Recordings of the Huge Tsunami in Kesennuma.”

One of the highlights of the DVD is an uncut scene of tsunami engulfing Kesennuma, a port town.

Higashi Nippon said it produced the DVD because it had a responsibility to record the disaster, which claimed so many lives. It said the footage will prove valuable to future generations.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of the DVD will be donated to victims of the disaster.

The DVD sells for 1,470 yen, including tax. To inquire about purchasing, please e-mail shop@khb.jp.
