On March 12, 2011, Japan Society created the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund, a disaster relief fund to aid victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake.Through the fund, Japan Society supports the efforts of Dr. Shinichi Niwa, Fukushima Prefectural University Medical Center, to bring needed mental health services back to the region.
