The Urato Islands consists of the 4 islands, the Katsurashima Islands, the Nonoshima Islands, the Sabusawajima Islands, and the Hojima Islands in Shiogama bay. The Urato Islands have been inhabited for hundreds of years and most residents are from families traditionally involved in fishing industries. However, Sabusawa islands had rice fields, which were damaged by tsunami.
