3/11/11 Experience

I had just finished my physics project. Feeling triumphant, I made my way to the science resource center to print my paper. Glowing at the fact that it was done, I decided to tweak a couple of things to make sure it was all perfect and pretty. My friend had finished printing hers, so she went back to the class. It was just me and resource teacher working quietly, until another teacher pops his head in to say, “It’s finally the weekend! Life is good. You know, people don’t know how good their lives are sometimes." After working for a couple more minutes, the resource teacher voice drifts into my ear, “Should we go under the table?” Without an answer, she goes underneath the large circular table in the middle of the room, and I went under the small wooden table that the computer was on top of. Then, T came to the doorway and nonchalantly says, “So, I’m going to go check out the other buildings.” “T! No! Stay here!” Ms. Cousins yells at him. “It’s going to be fine. This building is built for earthquakes. ” T replies. He says something about the building being underground, but I wasn’t really sure. As I looked up to see T talking, I noticed that I was grabbing the table so hard my knuckles were turning white. “It was remolded in like 1982,” T continues to lecture. “1982?! That’s ages ago!” I exclaim. “It’s okay, this building can stand an earthquake up to about magnitude 8” “What’s this earthquake?” “Like magnitude 7?” Then I noticed the shaking had gradually come to a stop. I hear a voice, the intercom say “Please evacuate to the field immediately.” I look at the resource teacher, “Do I just… go?” “I guess,” she replies. I dash out the SRC, and into the halls, hoping I could catch the rest of my conceptual physics class before they reach the field.
