Japanese Title
"Terror, Fear, Broken Hearts and Many Tears"
English Description
March 11, 2011 was a devastating day for many people of Japan. It is the unspeakable day of terror, fear, broken hearts and many tears. Lives were lost because of the tsunami tide that quickly followed by the 9.0 magnitude monster earthquake that struck northern Japan. I remember watching the news that night in horror and pleaded that something this terrible hopefully would never happen again.
It was my freshman year in high school and I was participating in my PE class playing softball out on the football field on a sunny day during last period. It was then we heard students running out of the high school screaming, “EARTHQUAKE!” at the top of their lungs. We all looked around at each other in confusion. Then suddenly, I felt it in the ground slowly getting stronger and stronger. It knocked me right off my feet and I fell to the ground in shock. I looked to my right and saw the trees in the nearby park adjacent to the school swinging so heavily that they could almost snap in half. I looked to my left and saw the building windows shake with so much power that they could shatter in any second. I simply embraced my friend for support and prayed that it would end very soon. After shock after after shock, all I could think about was when I would reunite with my family and when the mayhem would finally be over.
I am aware that my story may not be as tragic compared to other’s stories you may hear about what happened that day, but it was a very unforgettable one. It has changed who I am and how I see things and has made me appreciate what I have now more than I ever did. I also make sure that I don't miss out on any given opportunities and to live life like everyday is my last. It is a very scary thought to think that one day you could have something that could be gone the next, such as your friends and family. It is very important to value many of the things you have now because one day, you may lose it all and never get it back.
