English Description

SENDAI--A company hit hard by the 2011 disaster is creating colorful flower decorations made from traditional "washi" paper for the Sendai Tanabata Festival, one of the major summer festivals in the Tohoku region.

Work to produce decorative banners on bamboo frames will continue at paper wholesaler Narumiya Kamishoji Co.'s building in Sendai's Wakabayashi Ward until the start of the festival on Aug. 6.

Narumiya Kamishoji's head office was destroyed by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. The new head office was completed last October.

"We would be very happy if people view the spectacular decorations and feel the spirit of Sendai businessmen who have lifted themselves up from the natural disasters," said Koichiro Narumi, a company official.
