The earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tohoku on March 11, 2011 produced devastating tremors and a tsunami that led to the loss and missing of approximately 20,000 precious lives, along with a great loss of infrastructure and assets. Recovery and reconstruction of areas affected by the disaster are expected to take a very long time.
