Item Description
A 10-metre-hight pine tree stands in Rikuzentakata city, Iwate prefecture on March 29, 2011. The tree is the only tree to have survived the tsunami among some 70,000 trees located by the seashore to protect from salt, sand and wind damages. Japan was hit on March 11 by a massive quake and tsunami that shattered towns along the coast of the northeastern Tohoku region, has left more than 28,000 dead or missing, and sparked a major nuclear plant emergency.
