In the aftermath of Japan’s devastating 9.0 earthquake and ensuing tsunami, the death toll is feared to be more than 10,000. Fires continue to burn in several of the hardest-hit coastal areas as rescuers search for survivors amid hundreds of aftershocks. An explosion at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and problems at a neighboring plant have forced the evacuation of thousands of residents.
