As a member of the Japanese Society of Transcultural Psychiatry I have dealt with psychiatric problems of a number of resident foreigners living in Japan. Foreigners can face such fears as not being able to understand the language and culture, but do have room to enjoy that different culture during stress-free times. However, when a large earthquake, such as on 3.11, occurs, even Japanese can lose peace of mind, and can no longer have the time and energy needed to deal with foreigners.
