Building Research Institute (BRI) has been conducting strong motion observation for buildings since 1957. At the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, strong motion records were collected at 54 stations in Japan. From the observed records, it was found that the high-rise buildings shook largely because of the effect of long period component of earthquake ground motions.
