Item Description
A barge piled high with Japanese tsunami debris made a hearty pickup this week in Ucluelet as part of a massive coastal cleanup project.
During a month-long operation more than four years after an earthquake and tsunami ravaged the east coast of Japan and sent debris transiting the Pacific Ocean, helicopters with sling load capabilities loaded the 300-foot barge with 3,334 “super sacks” — one-ton agriculture bags — and 691 cubic yards of assorted debris collected from beaches in Alaska.
