ASIJ 7th Grade Student Testimonial

We were in the middle of class when the earthquake hit. None of us realised what was happening at first, as earthquakes are frequent in Japan. Once the tremors began to increase in intensity, we crouched under our desks and waited until we were told to evacuate the building. For the next couple hours, we sat on the field, some of us quiet, some of us crying in confusion. Since I didn't own a smartphone, I had no clue what was going on. Even when I got the chance to see a live TV news report a couple hours later, I didn't know how bad the situation was. I knew something big had happened, but I didn't know exactly how big it was. All I understood was that the country was in a state of chaos.
