Student Experience

Today in class we are remembering the events that took place in Japan March 11, 2011. I was not living in Japan when the earthquake happened, but I do remember hearing about it. At the time I was a middle school student at an international school in Mexico City. I remember it being on the news and possibly speaking about it briefly with my family and teachers. However, because it wasn't affecting me directly, I don't remember it having a huge impact on my life. I definitely don't recall the exact events of the time or day like some of my fellow students who were in Tokyo during the earthquake. Living in Japan now and associating Tokyo with somewhat of a home, it's strange to me that I barely even remember hearing about an earthquake that had such a lasting impact on the country and some of my now very close friends.
