How did Teenagers Respond to Great East Japan Earthquake: In Terms of Identity Development of Teenagers [PDF]

Submitted by RIJS on
Item Description
Experiences of natural disasters have a considerable influence on the development of children. Various studies have examined the effects that interfere with children’s development, such as post traumatic stress disorder symptoms. However, the potentially positive aspects of disaster experience that encourage children’s development have received little attention. To fill this gap, the present study examines data obtained in interviews and submissions from teenagers and adults recorded in the report using qualitative coding focus on their “role”. Results suggest that roles teenagers played after the Great East Japan Earthquake may have contributed to the adolescent developmental task of identity formation
