The Society for Remediation of Radioactive Contamination in Environment

Submitted by RIJS on
Item Description
The meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant triggered by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami resulted in widespread environmental radioactive contamination, becoming the most severe nationwide environmental issue. Decontamination must be our priority in order to secure public safety as soon as possible. In the past, radioactive decontamination was typically required for radiation leaks at radioactive isotope research labs and small scale industrial offices. However, the large scale and severity of the radioactive contamination in Tōhoku is causing increasing public anxiety regarding radiation risks.
