Item Description
During 3.11, I was in fourth-grade living in Manila (the Philippines). I heard about the earthquake/tsunami from my mum when I came home and was immediately scared because my grandparents live in Japan. Luckily, they live in Kyoto, so they were not affected by the tsunami/nuclear reactor tragedy. I remember watching the news in Japanese, and seeing really scary images of the disaster. The whole day, my family got lots of emails and messages from relatives, asking if my Japanese family was okay. Even though I was not affected by the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear disaster, and was not there, I still felt the waves of sadness and terror, 3000 kilometers away. Furthermore, as the Philippines and Japan are in quite close proximity to each other, I remember hearing tsunami warnings on TV for the coasts of the area.
