This document is one of the support materials for the JRCS's "Nuclear Disaster Guidelines for Preparedness, Response and Recovery" and explains the past major nuclear accidents (the Three Mile Island accident, the Chernobyl accident and the JCO Tokaimura criticality accident) and the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) developed by the IAEA.
