This is a summary for FY 2014 JRCS First Basic Training Session for Response to Nuclear Disasters, which was organized by the JRCS and held on November 5, 2014. The training session is part of the JRCS efforts to enhance its nuclear emergency preparedness following the lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake. The training content was based on the discussion at the Meeting for Medical Personnel of Japanese Red Cross (JRC) Radiation Emergency Hospitals held in August 2014. The training was for physicians, nurses, radiological technologists and administration staff working at JRC hospitals and staff of JRC chapters across Japan. The training session provided them with knowledge and skills to act safely and reassured as relief team members under a nuclear disaster. The program included lectures on basic radiation knowledge and nuclear disasters; workshops for use of survey meter; case studies assuming activity period and upper limit of radiation during relief activities.
