福島県沿岸部の新地町では、津波の被害で多くの住宅が流された。日本赤十字社では、海外救援金をもとに、被災高齢者住宅の建築を支援し、2013年11月に完成した。この住宅に住む竹沢さんは、「この住宅がなければ、仮設住宅を出て行くところがなかった。ここに住むようになってから快適な生活を送れるようになり、頼まれれば近所の農家に手伝いに行くようになった。」語った。

English Description
In Shinchi Town located along the Pacific coast, many houses were washed out by the tsunami. The JRCS supported building of public housing for affected elderly people and it was completed in November 2013. Ms. Takezawa who currently lives in the housing says, "Without this public housing, I could have nowhere to live after a temporary housing was closed. The living here gives me a comfortable life, and I work part-time when farmers in the neighborhood ask me for help."
