English Title
JRCS Health Consultation Program for People Who Evacuated from Namie Town (Timeline webpage)
English Description

Due to the effects from the radiation release caused by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, Municipality of Namie Town relocated its municipal office to Nihonmatsu City. Temporary housing for their citizens were also built there and the neighboring areas. However, many of the evacuees from Namie chose to live in Iwaki where the climate is similar to that of Namie Town. For these people who are living in rental houses in Iwaki City rented by Fukushima Prefecture, there are very few places where they can get together and this has caused their isolation. Furthermore, the stalled public health services for them by the Namie municipal government facilitated the anxieties of these people. At the request of Namie Town, the Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) provides a health consultation program for the evacuees who are living in Iwaki City. Japanese Red Cross hospital nurses across Japan and faculty members of the Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing work on the program in turn. They visit their homes in Iwaki City to figure out their health conditions and provide health consultation and psycosocial care for the people who are living in an environment they are not familiar to. In this content, the JRCS health consultation program activities are chronologically organized and the relevant news posted on the JRCS website are introduced.
