原発事故に伴う放射線の影響のため、大熊町は役場機能を会津若松市に移転し、多くの町民が市内の仮設住宅や借上げ住宅に暮らしています。子どもやお年寄りなどの車を運転できない住民の生活のために、日本赤十字社は仮設住宅と学校、役場、病院、買い物施設などを結ぶコミュニティ・バスの運行支援を行いました。

English Description
Municipality of Okuma moved its municipal government office to Aizuwakamatsu due to the effects from radiation following the nuclear accident. Many of the residents are living in temporary housing or private rental housing rented by the Fukushima Prefectural Government in Aizuwakamatsu. For children and elderly people who cannot drive a car, the Japanese Red Cross Society provided support for community bus operations. The bus services run from temporary housing locations through schools, the municipal government office, hospitals and shopping malls.
