津波で学校や住居が被災したり、原発事故に伴う放射線の影響によって避難移転を余儀なくされた子どもたちは、仮設住宅から避難先の学校までの通学に長時間を要するなど苦労していました。仮設住宅と避難先の学校との通学手段を確保するため、日本赤十字社はスクールバスの寄贈や、運行の業者委託を行いました。

English Description
Schools and houses were damaged by the tsunami and children were forced to be evacuated to other places due to the effects from radiation following the nuclear accident. They had difficulty going to school from their temporary housing, because it took a long time. The Japanese Red Cross Society provided school buses to ensure a means of transportation for children between their temporary housing and school, and arranged the bus operations.
