When people were forced to live at evacuation centers due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, they experienced physical and psychological suffering for a long period of time, such as lack of restrooms, power failure and insufficient privacy protection. Learning from those lessons, the Japanese Red Cross Society provided basic supplies and equipment. These included generators and lights which are necessary in operating evacuation centers. They improve the living environments of the affected people to stay at those centers which would be opened in future possible huge disasters.
