This content is about an excerpt from Chapter 3 of a report of relief activities during the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami conducted by the Japanese Red Cross Nagahama Hospital. This excerpt is about activities by a survey team for deep vein thrombosis (DVT, known as economy class syndrome). The team visited five evacuation centers in Inawashiro Town and Aizumisato Town and surveyed possibilities of developing DVT. Of 1,072 people surveyed, one patient tested positive for DVT from tests measuring D-dimer. At these evacuation centers, the evacuees were urged to do exercise to move their lower bodies and take water. These activities for raising awareness of DVT prevention led to the prevention.
