The JRCS hopes to respond appropriately to nuclear disasters which might happen in the future. To realize the response, the JRCS decided to conduct its relief activities outside "restricted areas" which the national and local governments designate in the event of a nuclear disaster. The JRCS also set a cumulative dose limit for each relief team member during an activity period at 1mSv or less. These activity areas and code of conduct are clarified in a manual and guidelines that the JRCS developed. In addition, to prepare for ensuring the safety of JRCS responders in the event of a nuclear disaster, the JRCS provided radiation protective equipment/materials to the JRCS chapters and facilities across Japan.
