From Nov. 15 to 30, 2012, Ikuko Takahashi, a nurse from the Japanese Red Cross Akita Hospital, and Takako Miura, a nurse from the Japanese Red Cross Ishinomaki Hospital made door-to-door visits to Namie people and joined Namie community meetings. Through the activities, the nurses tried to understand the health conditions of the people and what they needed for support.
They also prepared a leaflet for the purpose of health enhancement with questions including, “Are you receiving regular medical check-ups?” When the nurses joined a “Community Salon” where the people from Namie get together for communication, they provided health consultations and blood pressure measurements. They also joined a recreation program. The Namie people accepted the visits by the JRCS nurses willingly, which indicates their trust and expectations for the Red Cross.
