The JRCS started a “salon” program in the summer of 2013 for health enhancement and communication promotion for people from Namie. People who came to the salon activity exercised with a soft ball to combat physical inactivity and release their stress. They also chatted with each other and enjoyed the activity.
From Jul. 23 to Aug. 6, 2013, JRCS nurses worked on the health consultation program: Takako Kamimura from the Nagaoka Red Cross Hospital and Toshie Uematsu from the Japanese Red Cross Otsu Hospital. They also joined the salon activity. They recommended participating in the salon activities at every door-to-door visit, hoping the activities would help them recreate their community and alleviate a lack of exercise.
