English Title
Living in the shadow of Fukushima
English Description

As mixed information on radiation is out, people living in Fukushima continue to be concerned about effects from radiation. Parents let their children play only indoors, not outdoors, even when air dose rate is under standard value which is believed to be a safe level. The Japanese Red Cross Society provided indoor playground program called 'Smile Park' for young children to be free from radiation effects. Perception of radiation level depends on local governments. Some encourage their residents to return and others regard radiation risks as still high.
