This content is about an excerpt of a report on relief activities conducted by the Nagaoka Red Cross Hospital during the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. The excerpt is about an essay contributed by Dr. Ebe who was dispatched as a member of the first DMAT from the hospital to the affected area on the earthquake day:
"I was mobilized as a DMAT member on the earthquake day and headed to the Fukushima Medical University Hospital. Then the DMAT was transformed to a JRCS relief team and conducted relief activities. However, the nuclear accident in Fukushima forced us to discontinue our activities in Fukushima and head for Miyagi Prefecture. That was a decision made to avoid our exposure to radiation, but I felt sorry to the affected people in Fukushima and that painful feeling remained in my mind."
