このレポートは、地震の発生から6ヶ月間（2011年3月から9月まで）の日赤の活動について説明しています。
日赤は、地震発生後5時間以内に19の救護班を被災地に派遣するなど、全国92の傘下の病院による支援を行い、岩手・宮城・福島の3県に合計で795の救護班を派遣しました。こころのケアの専門チームも岩手・宮城の両県に派遣しました。また、地域の赤十字奉仕団が、地震発生の日から被災者支援のための様々な活動を行ってきました。
あわせて、避難所や仮設住宅などで避難生活を送る被災者の生活環境の改善や、震災によって失われた健康・社会福祉サービスの復旧のための支援も行いました。これらの活動には、海外の姉妹社を通して寄せられた海外救援金（8月末時点で400億円を超える金額が寄せられました）が使われました。
This report explains the JRCS activities conducted for six months from the outset of the earthquake (March 2011-September 2011). Within five hours after the outset of the earthquake, the JRCS sent 19 relief teams to the affected areas and continued to dispatch relief teams from 92 Japanese Red Cross hospitals throughout Japan. In total, 795 JRCS relief teams were dispatched to the three affected prefectures: Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima. The JRCS also sent special psychosocial care teams to two prefectures of Iwate and Miyagi. In addition, Red Cross volunteer corps in the affected areas started providing various activities on the earthquake day to support the survivors. Other assistance was also provided in order to improve the living environment of the survivors who lived in evacuation centers and temporary housing and recover health/social welfare services which were lost by the disaster. These assistance activities were funded by the international donations (over 40 billion yen as of the end of August 2011) given to the JRCS via its sister National Societies.
