このレポートは、地震の発生から12ヶ月間（2011年3月から2012年4月まで）の日赤の活動について説明しています。2012年3月は震災から1年となるため、冒頭に、日赤の近衞社長のメッセージが掲載されています。
日赤は、震災直後の応急対応に加え、復旧・復興のための事業も行っており、これらの事業は、生活やコミュニティーの再建支援、福祉サービスの回復支援、教育支援、地域の医療体制の復旧支援、今後発生するかもしれない災害に備える取り組みがあります。これらの事業には、海外の姉妹社を通して寄せられた海外救援金（2012年3月末時点で520億円を超える金額が寄せられました）が使われています。
This report explains the JRCS activities conducted for 12 months from the outset of the earthquake (March 2011-April 2012). As March 2012 marks the first anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, a message of JRCS President Konoe begins this edition. As well as response activities right after the earthquake, the JRCS has provided recovery programmes. These programmes include assistance for rebuilding lives and communities, education and rebuilding community hospitals and preparedness for the possibility of disasters in the future. These programmes are funded by the international donations given to the JRCS via its sister National Societies (over 52 billion yen at the end of March 2012).
