Item Description
I wasn't living in Japan during the time of the 3.11 disaster. I remember my mom trying to call our family in Japan. It took a while to get in contact with them, and it was terrifying to not know if they were okay. At my Saturday Japanese school, that was the main topic of conversation. Everyone was asking each other if they had heard the news if they had gotten in touch with their families. Even across the world, everyone was in a panic trying to better understand the situation. I remember my mom and our Japanese friends made hundreds of origami cranes and bookmarks to sell at my school to raise money to donate to Japan. I think I bought two or three myself. I had felt a sense of accomplishment for having contributed. After that month though, the disaster had already left my mind. Living so far away, I didn't realize how bad the situation was and how many people it had effected.
