陸前高田市立高田東中学校は、東日本大震災にて被災した３つの中学校を統合した新校舎です。学校機能の充実に加え、被災した住民の「地域の居場所」になる建築です。学校づくりのプロセスでは生徒や教員、地域住民と幾度ものワークショップを開催し、様々な希望や意見を受け入れながら設計・施工を進めました。図書室や多目的ホールをアクセスの良い大きなエントランスに配置することで、地域に開きやすい平面計画とし、いろんな場所で生徒の生き生きとした活動と広田湾が同時に感じられる校舎です。周囲の山並みに寄り添うような、カテナリー状の木の屋根並みは、復興のシンボルとして長く地域に親しまれ続けることを願っています。
Takata-Higashi Junior High School is a new building that integrated the three schools affected by Tohoku earthquake. It is a building aimed at improving school functions and creating residences' place. We held a workshop with students, teachers, residents, and accepted many opinions and advanced design. We arrange the library and hall near the entrance and make it a plan that is easy to open to the area. In the new building, students' activities and Hirota Bay are felt in anyplaces. I hope that the tree roof shaped like the mountains will be familiar to the area as a symbol of reconstruction.
