Tepco required 15% cut in electricity use and started limiting the use of various convenient public services, including ATM, escalators, and AC. Because Tepco’s advantage is at stake after the disaster, it has been trying to hammer this idea into people that they cannot live without Tepco’s electricity supply.
Plenty of people have developed a profound grudge on Tepco’s dictatorial way of forcing the use of nukes. However, there has not been any major student demonstration against it. In my opinion, this phenomena derives chiefly from the national character of Japanese that they are used to get manipulated by the given systems. Even though Tepco’s terrifying piece of logic fed into an unmitigated catastrophe, people are too gutless to assert themselves and end up aligning themselves with the prevailing winds of “not valuing the nail that sticks up”.
