After 3/11 I felt, among many mixed emotions of horror, fear and sadness, also chagrin. I have in the past written a few pieces opposing nuclear power, but never really concentrated on that subject. Clearly, I and the other people who have been warning of the dangers of these power plants have failed to get our message across. As I was thinking this, one of my former students, Izumi Kaori (she is campaigning against the Tomari plant in Hokkaido and the founder of Shut Tomari!) said to me, "Somebody should translate Hirose Takashi''s Fukushima Meltdown into English." We decided to put together a translation team to do that. It is now available online at Amazon Kindle, with the title Fukushima Meltdown: The World''s First Earthquake-Tsunami-Nuclear Disaster. For anyone who wants to know what really happened at Fukushima, and what is likely to happen next in earthquake-prone Japan, this is a must-read.
