July 7, 2011 the Tohoku Shikansen line was restored following the earthquake on March 11th. The Shikansen is yet to record a single fatality ever in its 47 years of existence, and on March 11, JR East''s impressive earthquake detection system helped prevent any loss of life in the Shikansen lines near Sendai.
